Is a direct numerical simulation (DNS) of Navier-Stokes equations with small enough grid spacing and time-step definitely reliable/correct?
Published in Journal of Ocean Engineering and Science, 2024
This work raises a fundamental question about the traditional trust placed in Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS). Through rigorous comparisons, it questions whether merely reducing grid spacing and time-step is sufficient to guarantee the reliability of Navier-Stokes simulations in chaotic regimes.
